Wofford defeats UNC Greensboro 97-85
Wofford Edges UNC Greensboro 97-85 in Thrilling Conference Showdown
In a tightly contested and highly anticipated conference matchup, the Wofford Terriers emerged victorious over the visiting UNC Greensboro Spartans, 97-85, at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on Thursday evening.
Trailing by just eight points at halftime, Wofford's offense exploded for 41 points in the second half, fueled by a potent mix of inside scoring and outside shooting. The Terriers' Kahmare Holmes led the charge, pouring in 27 points, including four three-pointers, to spearhead the team's comeback bid.
Holmes, who finished with 11 points in the first half, was complemented by an impressive all-around performance from Cayden Vasko. The senior forward racked up nine rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals, demonstrating his versatility and impact on both ends of the floor. His impressive stat line capped off a remarkable night for Wofford's offense.
Meanwhile, UNC Greensboro struggled to find its footing in the second half, shooting just 49% from the field and struggling with three-point attempts. Justin Neely led the Spartans' charge, scoring 26 points, but couldn't overcome the team's collective shooting struggles.
The Terriers' ability to contain the Spartans' high-powered offense was a major factor in their victory. Wofford held UNC Greensboro to just 43% shooting from beyond the arc and limited the visiting squad to 75% field goal efficiency.
Wofford took control of the game early, building a 20-point lead with less than five minutes remaining. The Spartans' late surge was ultimately too little, too late, as the Terriers held on for the 12-point win.
The victory propels Wofford to 10-2 in conference play and sets up an intriguing matchup next week against another top contender. In contrast, UNC Greensboro falls to 6-4 with the loss.
