DePaul Falls Short at Gampel Pavilion, UConn Takes Conference Win
In a closely contested conference matchup, the University of Connecticut (UConn) emerged victorious over visiting DePaul, 72-60, on Sunday night at Gampel Pavilion.
The game was a testament to the Huskies' ability to grind out wins in tight situations. Despite trailing 37-27 at halftime, UConn's offense found its rhythm in the second half, outscoring DePaul by 35 points to seal the 12-point victory.
For the home team, Braylon Mullins was instrumental in the win, recording 16 points on 50% shooting from the field and grabbing seven rebounds. Silas Demary Jr. added 14 points, three assists, and three steals to help pace the offense.
On the other hand, DePaul's Layden Blocker paced the Blue Demons with 16 points but struggled with his outside shot, going 1-5 from beyond the arc on 38.5% efficiency. Brandon Maclin chipped in with 12 points and two assists for DePaul.
UConn controlled the paint, scoring 38 points against DePaul's 28, and exploited the Blue Demons' defensive weaknesses to outscore them in fast break points (6-7) and points off turnovers (20-9).
The Huskies also dominated on the glass, grabbing 30 rebounds compared to 25 for DePaul. Their strong rebounding effort was a key factor in their victory.
In terms of advanced statistics, UConn's true shooting percentage was an impressive 61.7%, while DePaul's eFG% was 51.1%. The Huskies' ability to shoot efficiently and control the boards ultimately proved too much for DePaul to overcome.
With this win, UConn improves its chances in the conference standings and takes another step towards securing a postseason berth.
