DePaul defeats Georgetown 56-50
DePaul Edges Georgetown in Thrilling Comeback Victory
The Wintrust Arena was electric on Wednesday night as DePaul (HOME) hosted conference rival Georgetown (AWAY). The Blue Demons, led by their tenacious defense, pulled off a stunning 56-50 upset over the Hoyas, erasing a 3-point halftime deficit to claim a hard-fought victory.
At halftime, Georgetown held a slim 32-35 lead, but DePaul's gritty performance in the second half sparked an impressive comeback. The Blue Demons' defense stiffened, allowing Georgetown to manage just eight points over the final 20 minutes, while their offense found its rhythm behind a 7-3 run from Brandon Maclin.
Maclin led the charge for DePaul with 13 points, including 1-6 from beyond the arc and 23.1% shooting overall. His counterpart on the other end of the court was Georgetown's KJ Lewis, who scored 18 points but struggled to find his range, going 0-2 from 3-point territory.
The Blue Demons' balance and depth ultimately proved decisive in their victory. NJ Benson chipped in with a strong all-around performance, grabbing 16 rebounds and contributing nine points on the offensive end. Layden Blocker added five assists and nine points of his own, while Brandon's defensive effort limited Georgetown's star player to just three points.
For Georgetown, the loss stings after leading by four at intermission. KJ Lewis's efforts kept the Hoyas in it, but ultimately fell short as the Blue Demons' bench provided crucial support down the stretch.
In a closely contested game that featured two of the nation's top conference teams, DePaul emerged victorious thanks to their gritty second-half performance and tenacious defense. With this hard-fought win, the Blue Demons take a step closer to establishing themselves in the Big East standings.
