N'Western St Falls 79-70 in Thrilling Non-Conference Matchup at Haas Pavilion
The California Golden Bears (12-2) dominated their non-conference opponent, Northwestern State (5-7), with a convincing 79-70 win at home on Saturday night. The energetic crowd at Haas Pavilion was treated to an entertaining game that saw both teams battle for every point.
The first half was closely contested, with California leading by as few as one point late in the period before tying it up at 37-37. However, the Golden Bears took control of the second half, outscoring Northwestern State by 10 points to seal the win.
John Camden led California's charge, scoring a game-high 25 points on 6-of-9 three-point attempts. He also pulled down 13 rebounds and dished out four assists. Semetri Carr added 14 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists for the Golden Bears.
For Northwestern State, Izzy Miles scored 22 points but struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 3-of-4 three-pointers. Willie Williams led the Demons in rebounding with eight boards.
The Golden Bears' balanced attack was evident throughout the game, as they shot an impressive 45% from the field and 46% from three-point range. California's defense also held Northwestern State to a mere 18 rebounds on offense.
The largest lead of the night came at the end of the second half when California's Lee Dort nailed a layup with just over five minutes left, making it an 8-point game (63-55). The Golden Bears maintained their edge until the final whistle, never trailing by more than nine points throughout the contest.
This win propels California to 12-2 on the season, while Northwestern State falls to 5-7.
