TCU defeats Oral Roberts 72-53
Oral Roberts Falls Short at TCU, Suffers 19-Point Deficit in Schollmaier Arena
The TCU Horned Frogs dominated their non-conference opponent, the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles, by a score of 72-53 on Friday night at Schollmaier Arena.
As the visiting team, Oral Roberts came into the game with a high-powered offense that had been averaging over 80 points per game this season. However, they were unable to contain TCU's strong defense, which held them to just 38% from the field and forced 14 turnovers.
At halftime, TCU led by as many as 13 points, but Oral Roberts made a brief push in the second half, cutting the deficit to 10 points with just over 5 minutes remaining. However, the Horned Frogs responded with a 12-2 run, including four consecutive points from David Punch, to seal the win.
Punch led TCU's balanced attack, scoring 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting and grabbing six rebounds. Jayden Pierre added 12 points, four assists, and three steals to help his team secure the victory.
For Oral Roberts, Ty Harper paced the offense with 16 points, but struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just two of seven shots. The Golden Eagles also had difficulty on the glass, losing the rebounding battle by one, as they fell to 26 boards compared to TCU's 38.
The loss drops Oral Roberts' record, while TCU improves its own mark.
"TCU played well tonight," said Oral Roberts head coach, [Coach's Name]. "We just couldn't contain their defense and couldn't get our shots to fall."
