Wisconsin defeats Michigan 88-91
No. 15 Wisconsin Edges No. 10 Michigan in Thrilling Conference Showdown
In a back-and-forth affair, the Wisconsin Badgers came from behind to defeat the host Michigan Wolverines 91-88 on Sunday night at Crisler Center. The decisive victory keeps Wisconsin atop the conference standings and marks their third straight win over a top-15 opponent.
The game's primary storyline centered around Wisconsin's remarkable comeback from a one-point deficit at halftime. Trailing 38-37, the Badgers regrouped and outscored Michigan 54-50 in the second half to take control of the contest. The turning point came when Michigan led by as many as 14 points early in the game, but Wisconsin responded with a 13-2 run to cut the deficit to four with just over 10 minutes remaining.
John Blackwell (26 points, 4-8 3PT) and Braeden Carrington (12 points, 9 rebounds) led the Badgers' charge, while Nick Boyd dished out six assists in the win. The Wisconsin offense shot a blistering 62.9% from the field, with Blackwell and Carrington combining for 28 of their team's 91 points.
In contrast, Michigan struggled to find its rhythm, particularly from beyond the arc. Elliot Cadeau (19 points, 2-4 3PT) led the Wolverines in scoring, but his teammates shot a paltry 32% from three-point range. The home team outrebounded Wisconsin 32-30 and forced 10 turnovers, but ultimately came up just short.
The Badgers' advanced statistics tell an even more compelling story. They held Michigan to a true shooting percentage of 60.6%, which was the lowest of any conference opponent this season. Meanwhile, Wisconsin shot an impressive eFG% of 62.9% and limited Michigan's points in the paint to just 38.
The win keeps Wisconsin atop the conference standings and marks their third straight victory over a top-15 opponent. The Badgers will look to continue their winning ways when they travel to face No. 20 Indiana next week.
