Colorado defeats UTSA 88-64
Colorado Dominates in Statement Win over UTSA
The CU Events Center was electric as the Colorado Buffaloes hosted their non-conference opponent, the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), on Saturday night. The outcome was never in doubt as the home team cruised to an 88-64 victory, putting on a clinic for the visiting Roadrunners.
The halftime score had Colorado leading 35-32, but it was clear that this game was going to be a statement win for the Buffaloes. As the second half got underway, Colorado took control, widening their lead to as many as 27 points at one point. The largest lead of the night came when UTSA's Jamir Simpson attempted a three-pointer with just over two minutes left in the game.
Despite being unable to mount any real challenge, UTSA showed signs of life in the second half, particularly from Simpson, who finished with 20 points on 50% shooting and six assists. However, it was not enough to overcome the sheer dominance of Colorado's offense.
The Buffaloes shot an impressive 49.0% from the field, including 39.0% from three-point range. Barrington Hargress led the team in scoring with 23 points, while Sebastian Rancik contributed seven rebounds and 15 points off the bench. Isaiah Johnson dished out six assists and added nine points of his own.
Colorado's defense was equally impressive, holding UTSA to just 39.0% shooting from the field and limiting their three-point attempts significantly. The Buffaloes' strong performance on both ends of the floor allowed them to control the tempo of the game and run away with the win.
In a non-conference matchup that had little riding on it, Colorado made a statement by showcasing their dominance over a respectable UTSA team. With this victory, the Buffaloes have taken a significant step forward in their season and will look to build on this momentum as they head into conference play.
