Texas Tech defeats Colorado 71-73
Thrilling Upset: Texas Tech Edges Out Colorado 73-71
In a back-and-forth contest that had the CU Events Center on the edge of their seats, No. 14-ranked Texas Tech (13-7, 5-4 Big 12) emerged victorious over home-standing Colorado (10-9, 3-6 Big 12) by a margin of two points, 73-71.
The decisive factor in this closely contested game was the performance of visiting Texas Tech's JT Toppin, who scored a season-high 16 points and grabbed an additional 13 rebounds to fuel his team's winning cause.
Colorado's Isaiah Johnson led all scorers with 21 points but fell short of the win for his home team.
The game began at a breakneck pace, with Colorado taking an early lead before Texas Tech clawed its way back behind Toppin and LeJuan Watts. The Red Raiders maintained their advantage by as much as 24 in the third quarter, only to see Colorado stage a spirited comeback that saw them outscore Texas Tech by six points over the final five minutes of play.
In the end, however, it was Texas Tech who held its nerve, thanks largely to Toppin's clutch performance and a strong shooting display from Donovan Atwell (5-13 3PT), which included four crucial three-pointers in the fourth quarter.
