Colorado St defeats N New Mexico 104-54
Colorado State Dominates N New Mexico in Statement Win
The Moby Arena crowd was witness to a dominating performance by the Colorado State Rams, as they handed visiting N New Mexico a 104-54 thrashing on Monday night.
The home team took control from the outset, building a commanding 60-26 halftime lead. The margin only grew wider in the second half, with Colorado State ultimately emerging victorious by a staggering 50-point margin.
At the forefront of this impressive display was senior forward Darnez Slater, who notched 17 points on an efficient 1-for-1 three-point attempt and 100% field goal percentage. His contribution helped the Rams' bench stay hot, as they outscored N New Mexico's reserves by a wide margin.
On the other side of the court, N New Mexico struggled to find its footing against the stifling CSU defense. The Lobos' offense was held to just 34% shooting from the field and 39.7% three-point range, with their only bright spot being Marquise Delahaye's 17 points. However, even his efforts were largely in vain as he struggled to find consistent scoring opportunities against the CSU defense.
The Rams' 38-11 rebounding advantage told a significant story about their overall dominance on the glass. Jon Mekonnen led the way with seven rebounds, while Jevin Muniz contributed six assists and five points off the bench.
Despite struggling in key areas, Colorado State's statistics still spoke to the team's efficiency and effectiveness. The Rams shot 61% from the field and 77% from the free throw line, while holding N New Mexico to a dismal 39.7% shooting percentage.
This blowout win provided a statement for the Rams as they look towards their upcoming conference schedule. With a strong performance against a visiting opponent, CSU can build momentum heading into more challenging matchups in the coming weeks.
