Robert Morris defeats Toledo 75-70
Toledo Falls Short in Thrilling Comeback Bid Against Robert Morris
The UPMC Events Center was the stage for an instant classic on Sunday, as visiting Toledo fell just shy of a stunning upset against host Robert Morris. The Colonials erased an 18-point halftime deficit to secure a 75-70 victory in non-conference action.
Trailing 42-24 at intermission, Robert Morris made significant adjustments behind the bench to flip the script on the game. Led by senior DeSean Goode's 17 points and Nikolaos Chitikoudis' 14 rebounds and 12 points, the Colonials outscored Toledo 33-28 in the second half.
Goode paced the team with his clutch shooting, hitting just one of two three-point attempts while going 75% from the field. The senior forward sparked a key comeback, helping Robert Morris build a six-point lead early in the second half that proved decisive.
Meanwhile, Toledo struggled to contain Goode and Chitikoudis. Sonny Wilson scored 21 points for the Rockets, but his team was unable to capitalize on its own scoring opportunities. Austin Parks pulled down eight rebounds, but the Toledo rebounding edge – 35-46 in favor of Robert Morris – ultimately proved costly.
Despite outrebounding their visitors, Toledo's shooting efficiency was a major liability. The Rockets hit just 33% from the field and 33.0% from three-point range, while also struggling with free throws (87.0%). In contrast, Robert Morris shot an effective 49.1 eFG percentage and made nearly half of its free throw attempts.
This latest loss drops Toledo to 2-4 on the season, while Robert Morris improves to 3-3. The win marks a turning point in the Colonials' season, as they now possess momentum entering their next contest.
The UPMC Events Center crowd was treated to an instant classic, witnessing an incredible comeback by Robert Morris. With this victory, Toledo faces a crucial test in its upcoming schedule, while the Colonials look forward to building on their late-game surge.
