Miami OH defeats Toledo 73-87
Miami OH Takes Down Toledo 87-73 in Conference Showdown
In a thrilling conference matchup, the Miami OH RedHawks came out on top, defeating the host Toledo Rockets 87-73 at Savage Arena on Sunday night.
The visiting team took control of the game early, building a 56-36 halftime lead that stood up to be a decisive factor in the outcome. Despite Toledo's valiant effort to close the gap, Miami OH held strong, increasing their lead to as many as 28 points midway through the second half.
For the Rockets, Sonny Wilson was a bright spot, scoring 20 points on 61.5% shooting from the field and adding five assists. Sean Craig chipped in with 12 rebounds and 16 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome Miami OH's balanced attack.
On the other side of the court, Antwone Woolfolk led the RedHawks with 21 points, while Brant Byers added 20 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Peter Suder provided a spark off the bench, scoring seven points and dishing out six assists.
Toledo's game was marked by shooting woes, as they connected on just 39% of their field goal attempts (24/62). The Rockets were also outrebounded 21-12 in defensive rebounding, which limited them to fewer second-chance scoring opportunities. Miami OH, meanwhile, shot an impressive 54% from the field and held a significant advantage in fast break points.
The matchup between these two Mid-American Conference rivals was highly anticipated, with both teams boasting strong resumes entering the game. Miami OH's victory marked their first win over Toledo since 2018, while the Rockets' loss dropped them to 2-2 in conference play.
With the win, Miami OH improved to 3-1 in conference play and solidified their position atop the MAC standings. The RedHawks will look to keep their momentum going when they host Akron next week, while Toledo will try to bounce back from this defeat by hosting Kent State at home.
