Iona defeats Siena 75-72
Iona Edges Siena in Thrilling Conference Showdown
In a heart-stopping conference battle, Iona outlasted visiting Siena 75-72 at the Hynes Athletics Center on Saturday night. The home team's gritty performance was highlighted by standout performances from Toby Harris and CJ Anthony.
The game saw both teams engage in a back-and-forth affair, with Iona holding a narrow lead at halftime, 41-36. However, Siena refused to back down, tying the contest in the third quarter before Iona regained control with a 12-point cushion late in the fourth period.
Toby Harris was instrumental in his team's victory, scoring 25 points on 6-for-12 three-point shooting and 60.0% field goal efficiency. The senior guard also contributed significantly on the glass, grabbing seven rebounds while dishing out an assist.
CJ Anthony was equally impressive, doling out 13 assists to go along with his 10 points and five rebounds. His all-around effort helped Iona control the tempo of the game.
For Siena, Gavin Doty led the charge with 31 points on 43.5% field goal efficiency. The senior forward also grabbed 12 rebounds, providing a spark for his team in the paint.
Despite their efforts, Siena ultimately fell short, with the largest lead being just three points at the end of the game. The Red Hawks' inability to contain Harris and Anthony down the stretch proved costly.
The win marked Iona's third straight victory in conference play, solidifying their position as a contender in the league. For Siena, the loss serves as a setback, but with teams still early in the season, the Saints will look to regroup and bounce back.
