Virginia Tech defeats Elon 82-81
Virginia Tech Edges Elon in Thrilling Comeback Victory
In a dramatic turn of events, Virginia Tech (HOME) outlasted visiting Elon 82-81 on Saturday night at the Cassell Coliseum.
The Hokies trailed by as many as eight points at halftime, but Amani Hansberry led the charge in a stunning comeback. The sophomore guard scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead her team to the victory.
At halftime, Virginia Tech trailed Elon 43-37, but Hansberry's dominance on both ends of the floor sparked a decisive second-half turnaround. She finished with a game-high 20 points, including 56.2% shooting from the field.
Elon, meanwhile, struggled to contain the Hokies' defense, allowing just three points in the final period. The Phoenix shot just 47.0% from the field and committed 15 turnovers, which Elon capitalized on for 17 fast-break points.
For the visitors, Chandler Cuthrell led with 18 points but shot just 46.7% from the floor. Isaac Harrell added 16 points off the bench, but it wasn't enough to overcome Elon's deficit.
The game was a testament to Virginia Tech's resilience and ability to stay focused under pressure. Despite trailing by eight at the break, Hansberry and her teammates refused to give up, using their second-half surge to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
The Hokies' win marked their first non-conference victory of the season, while Elon dropped its second straight game on the road.
