MTSU Dominates Home Court with 37-Point Blowout Over Louisiana Tech
In a statement win, Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) thrashed visiting Louisiana Tech on Saturday night at the Murphy Center, handing the Bulldogs a 88-51 defeat in conference action.
The home team's dominance was evident from the start, as they jumped out to a 39-22 halftime lead. The margin only grew wider from there, with MTSU ultimately leading by 37 points when the final buzzer sounded.
Alec Oglesby led the charge for MTSU, scoring 25 points on 8-of-14 three-point shooting and 57.1% field goal percentage. Luka Jovanovic chipped in with 10 rebounds, while Sean Smith added six assists to help propel his team to victory.
For Louisiana Tech, Scooter Williams led the way with 12 points, but struggled from beyond the arc, going 0-for-4 on three-point attempts. Avery Thomas II and AJ Bates combined for five rebounds and four assists apiece, but couldn't stem the tide against MTSU's relentless offense.
MTSU's balanced attack was a major factor in their blowout win, as they shot 55% from the field, 50% from three, and 25% from free-throw line. The Bulldogs' bench also played a significant role, outscoring Louisiana Tech's reserves by 10 points.
In contrast, Louisiana Tech struggled to find its footing, shooting just 39% overall and 22% from three-point range. They were outrebounded 23-21 on the defensive end and committed 13 turnovers against MTSU's stingy offense.
The blowout loss drops Louisiana Tech's record in conference play, while MTSU moves back into contention with a statement win at home. The margin of victory was the largest of the season for either team, and it marked a turning point in the game that would ultimately prove insurmountable for the visitors.
