Tulane defeats East Carolina 70-79
Tulane Edges East Carolina in Thrilling Conference Showdown
The Green Wave came from behind to secure a 79-70 victory over the Pirates at Minges Coliseum on New Year's Eve.
Trailing by two points at halftime, Tulane mounted an impressive comeback to claim the win. The visiting team outscored their hosts 42-31 in the second half, with Rowan Brumbaugh playing a key role in the surge. Brumbaugh's 19 points and seven rebounds paced the Green Wave offense.
East Carolina's Jordan Riley led all scorers with 21 points, but his efforts were not enough to overcome the deficit. The Pirates struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 6-20 from three-point range.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading baskets and neither able to pull away for an extended period. East Carolina's Tybo Bailey provided a spark in the first half, scoring 13 points on 5-7 shooting before halftime.
Despite being outrebounded 39-35, Tulane managed to limit East Carolina's opportunities in the paint, holding them to just 38 points in the effort. The Green Wave also forced the Pirates into 11 turnovers, capitalizing on those miscues with ease.
Tulane's Asher Woods led all players with 19 points and four assists, while Rowan Brumbaugh added seven rebounds and 19 points of his own. East Carolina's Giovanni Emejuru chipped in nine rebounds and 12 points off the bench.
The win propels Tulane to a crucial conference victory, moving them up in the standings. For East Carolina, it was a tough home loss that falls just short of what could have been.
