Fullerton defeats UC San Diego 71-88
Fullerton Pulls Away from UC San Diego Behind Strong Shooting
The Fullerton Titans made a statement on the road, taking down the UC San Diego Tritons 88-71 in a closely contested conference matchup at LionTree Arena.
Trailing by five points at halftime, the Titans began to pull away in the second half behind a surge of three-point shooting. Christian Williams led the way with 22 points, including six threes, as Fullerton outscored UC San Diego 35-32 in the final 20 minutes.
Williams' hot shooting proved to be the difference-maker for Fullerton, which made 15 of its 29 three-point attempts (52.0%) compared to just nine successful threes from the Tritons. The Titans also converted at a higher rate on their free throw attempts, going 15-for-24 (63.0%) while UC San Diego shot 18-for-20 (90.0%).
Bryce Cofield chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds for Fullerton, which controlled the boards 28-39 but still managed to outscore UC San Diego by eight points.
For UC San Diego, Bol Dengdit led the way with 15 points on 55.6% shooting from the field and three threes. Aidan Burke added seven rebounds and 10 points for the Tritons, who struggled to contain Fullerton's outside shooting threat.
The loss drops UC San Diego to 5-12 overall and 2-7 in conference play, while Fullerton improves to 11-6 and 4-3 against conference opponents. With this win, the Titans are now firmly in the mix for a postseason bid.
