New Mexico defeats San José St 88-65
New Mexico Dominates San José St in Statement Win
The Lobos proved they're a force to be reckoned with in the conference at The Pit, dispatching visiting San José St 88-65.
New Mexico's 23-point victory was the perfect statement win for the team as it looked to bounce back from a tough loss last week. The Lobos controlled every aspect of the game, dominating on both ends of the court and never looking back.
The home team took control early, leading 41-28 at halftime. San José St couldn't find its footing in the second half, struggling with outside shooting and turnovers that New Mexico capitalized on.
For the Lobos, Milos Vicentic led the way, scoring 19 points on 3-5 three-point shooting and a blistering 77.8% field goal percentage. JT Rock chipped in with five rebounds and 11 points, while Deyton Albury had seven assists and 10 points.
The visiting Spartans were held to just 38.0% field goal efficiency, but Colby Garland did his best to keep the game close, scoring 27 points on 5-8 three-point shooting. Yaphet Moundi led San José St in rebounding with seven boards, while Garland also had four rebounds.
New Mexico's success was evident in its advanced statistics, including a true shooting percentage of 71.1% and an effective field goal percentage of 67.6%. The Lobos also outrebounded the Spartans by 31-21 and forced 13 turnovers to San José St's 13.
The final margin of 23 points was no surprise, given New Mexico's superior performance on both ends of the court.
