Army Edges Lehigh in Thrilling Conference Matchup
The visiting Army Black Knights pulled off a 7-point victory over the host Lehigh Mountain Hawks, 85-78, at Stabler Arena on New Year's Eve.
In a back-and-forth contest, both teams struggled to gain an advantage early on. The game seesawed between the two teams, with Lehigh leading by as many as four points in the first half. Army responded with a 10-point lead, only to see Lehigh retake the lead at halftime.
However, the Black Knights' superior shooting percentage down the stretch proved decisive. They shot 70% from the free throw line and connected on 7 of 22 three-point attempts (32.0%), outscoring Lehigh 19-13 in points off turnovers.
Army's strong rebounding effort also played a key role, with the team securing 46 rebounds to Lehigh's 26. The Black Knights' offense generated 38 points in the paint, compared to Lehigh's 44.
Lehigh's performance was hindered by a turnover ratio of 11.5, which allowed Army to capitalize on mistakes and build an insurmountable lead.
The win keeps Army competitive in conference play, where every matchup matters.
