Loyola MD Edges Army in Thrilling Comeback Victory
Christl Arena, West Point, NY - January 7, 2026
In a back-and-forth affair that saw both teams trade baskets and neither able to gain a significant advantage, the visiting Loyola Maryland Ravens (AWAY) managed to outlast their host Army Black Knights at home, taking a hard-fought 84-76 victory in conference play.
Army took an early lead, thanks in part to sharp shooting from Ryan Curry. However, as halftime approached, the Ravens began to find their rhythm and closed the gap to just one point, setting the stage for a thrilling second half.
In the final frame, Braeden Speed led the charge for Loyola MD, scoring 11 of his game-high 19 points, including five three-pointers. His hot shooting proved too much for Army to handle, as they struggled to find their own range in the second half.
The Black Knights did manage some key contributions from Ryan Curry, who finished with 19 points and five assists, while Jackson Furman added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Despite the effort, Army could not capitalize on its early lead, allowing Loyola MD to stay within striking distance throughout the game. In the end, it was the Ravens' ability to make their outside shots that proved decisive, as they outgunned their opponents from beyond the arc.
The win gives Loyola MD a crucial conference victory and will likely be seen as a significant upset by those who had favored Army at home. For the Black Knights, the tough road loss highlights the challenges of playing on the road in conference play.
