Marist defeats Bryant 74-82
Marist Edges Bryant 82-74 in Non-Conference Thriller
The Chace Athletic Center was electric on Saturday night as the Marist Red Foxes (AWAY) pulled off a hard-fought 8-point victory over the Bryant Bulldogs (HOME), 82-74.
In what was expected to be a closely contested game, Marist's balanced attack and stifling defense ultimately proved too much for the home crowd to handle. At halftime, the away team led 28-36, but the Red Foxes continued to push their advantage in the second half, outscoring Bryant by 10 points.
Justin Menard led Marist with a game-high 27 points on 5-for-7 shooting from beyond the arc, while Jadin Collins-Roberts chipped in with 6 points and 4 rebounds. The duo's scoring pace was too much for the Bulldogs to handle, as they shot just 35% from three-point range.
On the other end of the court, Timofei Rudovskii led all scorers with 17 points on 55.6% shooting from the field. His efforts were matched by his rebounding prowess, as he grabbed six boards in what was arguably a defensive showdown.
Bryant's Ty Tabales added four assists and 10 points off the bench to keep the game within striking distance throughout. However, Marist's superior depth and team defense ultimately secured the win.
The advanced statistics paint an interesting picture of this contest. Marist shot 56.4% from field goal range, while Bryant struggled with a 50.0% clip. The Red Foxes also outrebounded their opponents by two boards and committed fewer turnovers, demonstrating their ability to control tempo.
With the win, Marist improves to [X-] on the season, while Bryant drops to [Y]. For both teams, this non-conference matchup will serve as a building block for their respective seasons.
