Quarterbacks dominated the passing game. Kent State’s Dru Deshields had a phenomenal performance, completing 17 of 25 passes for 317 yards and a staggering five touchdowns. Akron’s Ben Finley, however, put up equally impressive numbers, throwing for 424 yards, three touchdowns, completing 32 of 59 passes.
On the ground, Akron's Jordan Gant led the way with 96 rushing yards and a touchdown. For Kent State, Gavin Garcia contributed 39 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Several key plays swung the momentum throughout the game. In the 1st quarter, a 54-yard kickoff return by Akron’s B. Hills set the Zips up in great field position. However, in the same quarter, Kent State's offense struck with a 89-yard touchdown reception by Da'Realyst Clark.
The 2nd quarter saw some crucial moments. Finley connected with Marcel Williams for a 42-yard gain, keeping Akron in the game. However, a sack by Kent State's CJ Young for a loss of seven yards stalled an Akron drive.
In the 3rd quarter, Deshields connected with Cade Wolford for a 43-yard touchdown. Later in the same quarter, Finley was sacked again, this time by Mason Woods, for a four-yard loss, further hindering the Zips’ progress.
The 4th quarter saw a critical fumble by Deshields, resulting in a six-yard loss, which added to the drama of the game.
