Howard defeats Drexel 66-74
Howard Outlasts Drexel in Thrilling Non-Conference Matchup
In a tightly contested non-conference affair, the visiting Howard University Bison edged the host Drexel Dragons 74-66 at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Tuesday night.
The primary storyline of the game was Howard's ability to outlast Drexel despite being down by as many as three points in the first half. The away team rallied behind a strong shooting performance, led by Ose Okojie, who finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Drexel's Kevon Vanderhorst was the top performer for the Dragons, scoring 30 points on 4-6 three-point shooting. His hot shooting helped give Drexel an early lead, but Howard's balanced attack eventually took over.
At halftime, Howard trailed by one point, 25-36, but the away team came out strong in the second half, outscoring Drexel 49-30 to take a commanding 10-point lead with just over two minutes remaining. The Dragons attempted to mount a comeback, but it was too little, too late.
Howard's balanced attack played a crucial role in their victory, as they shot 48% from the field and 92% from the free throw line. The team's ability to make key baskets down the stretch proved to be the difference-maker in the game.
The final margin of eight points was largest at halftime, but Drexel struggled to find its footing in the second half, committing turnovers and allowing Howard to pull away.
In a closely contested non-conference matchup, Howard's determination and balance ultimately led to their 74-66 victory over Drexel.
