Omaha defeats Lamar 82-85
Omaha Edges Lamar in Thrilling 3-Point Shooting Battle
The Montagne Center was electric on Monday night as the visiting Omaha Mavericks edged out the Lamar Cardinals, 85-82, in a non-conference thriller.
The difference between the two teams came down to one thing: three-point shooting. Omaha's Lance Waddles connected on 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, while Lamar's Rob Lee Jr. struggled with just 0-for-4 attempts. The Mavericks' 76.9% field goal percentage and 60.2% effective field goal percentage were more than enough to outlast the Cardinals.
Lamar started strong at home, leading 32-43 at halftime, but the Mavericks responded by pulling away in the second half. Omaha's Brock Scholl led the charge with 13 points, while Tony Osburn chipped in with 8 points and 4 assists.
Omaha took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Lamar 15-6 to build a 10-point lead. The Cardinals refused to go away, however, and trimmed their deficit to just three points by the end of regulation. In overtime, Omaha's Lance Waddles sank two clutch free throws with 1:30 remaining to seal the win.
The Mavericks' victory was significant not only due to its close margin but also because it represents a rare success for an away team in Montagne Center. The Cardinals will look to bounce back against their next opponent, while Omaha will continue their winning ways as they head into the new week.
