Tennessee St defeats UNLV 60-63
Tennessee St Edges UNLV in Thrilling Comeback Victory
In a nail-biting affair, the visiting Tennessee St edged out host UNLV 63-60 on Monday night at the Gentry Center. The Rebels were favored to win by as many as nine points at halftime, but the Bulldogs refused to back down.
Trailing by four points at intermission, Tennessee St embarked on a dramatic comeback in the second half, fueled by clutch shooting and stifling defense. Despite trailing by up to nine points throughout the game, UNLV never gave up, led by 13 points from Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn and nine rebounds from Kimani Hamilton.
However, it was the Bulldogs' ability to contain Hamilton that proved pivotal in their victory. Aaron Nkrumah led Tennessee St with 12 points, eight rebounds, and two steals, while Dante Harris chipped in with eight points and five assists.
The game's turning point came at halftime, when UNLV's 33-29 lead became a mere four-point margin for the first time all night. From there, Tennessee St seized control, outscoring the Rebels by nine points over the final 20 minutes to seal their stunning comeback victory.
For UNLV, the loss marks its second straight defeat in non-conference play. Despite struggling with efficiency on offense, the Rebels' defense was unable to contain Tennessee St's balanced attack. The Bulldogs shot 47% from the field and made just two of 16 three-point attempts.
The win propels Tennessee St to 5-3 overall, while UNLV falls to 4-4. The loss serves as a setback for the Rebels, who had high hopes entering the season. However, with this defeat, they'll look to regroup and refocus ahead of their next contest.
