Idaho defeats Evergreen 109-55
Evergreen Falls Flat in Blowout Loss at Idaho
In a statement win, the Idaho Vandals dominated their non-conference opponent, Evergreen, 109-55, behind a balanced performance that showcased the team's depth and resilience.
The home crowd was electric from the opening tip, as Idaho came out strong with a 56-17 lead at halftime. The difference in pace and intensity was stark, with Idaho's high-flying offense and suffocating defense proving too much for Evergreen to handle. The Vandals' bench played a crucial role in the blowout, with several reserves chipping in on both ends of the floor.
For Idaho, the game served as a statement win, demonstrating the team's ability to rise to the occasion against a quality opponent. Senior guard Jackson Rasmussen led the way with 20 points, hitting 2-4 three-pointers and shooting 77.8% from the field. Rasmussen's all-around performance was complemented by a strong rebounding effort from sophomore Aidan Sevilla, who pulled down seven boards while adding 14 points and five assists.
On the other end, Evergreen struggled to find its footing against Idaho's stifling defense. The visitors' offense was stagnant, with only Tony Frohlich-Fair managing to find his range early on. Despite a valiant effort from Frohlich-Fair, who finished with 16 points, including 2-2 three-point shooting, Evergreen couldn't overcome the deficit.
The statistics told a similar story, with Idaho's efficiency and discipline on both ends of the floor proving too much for Evergreen to handle. The Vandals shot an impressive 66.0% from the field, including 47.0% from beyond the arc, while holding their opponents to just 43.6% shooting. Idaho also outrebounded Evergreen 54-18 and committed significantly fewer turnovers (12 vs 16).
As the game wore on, Idaho continued to pull away, eventually building a 60-point lead at one point in the second half. The final margin was a staggering 54 points, a testament to the Vandals' dominance.
For Evergreen, the loss serves as a reminder that they have work to do if they want to compete with the top teams in the conference. The 55 points were the fewest of the season for the visitors, and it will be interesting to see how they respond to such a lopsided defeat.
