Iowa defeats UMass Lowell 90-62
Iowa Dominates UMass Lowell in Statement Win
Iowa's high-powered offense proved too much for visiting UMass Lowell, as the Hawkeyes cruised to a 90-62 victory at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Tuesday night.
The home team got off to a strong start, leading 47-30 at halftime and never looking back. The margin of victory was 28 points, with Iowa's largest lead coming at 33 points in the second half.
Iowa's field goal percentage (58.0%) was nearly identical to UMass Lowell's (48.0%), but the difference in efficiency was stark. Iowa made a significant 68.3% of its two-point attempts, compared to just 51.4% for the Minutemen. The Hawkeyes also took care of the ball, committing only seven turnovers, while UMass Lowell turned it over 16 times.
The game was a low-scoring affair, with neither team able to get into a rhythm early on. However, as the first half wore on, Iowa's offense began to click, and the Hawkeyes' bench provided significant contributions in the second half.
Iowa's top performer was senior forward Caitlin Clark, who finished with 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Clark has emerged as one of the most dominant players in the Big Ten, and her performance on Tuesday night was no exception.
The loss drops UMass Lowell to 2-4 on the season, while Iowa improves to 6-1. The Hawkeyes' win over a ranked opponent marks their second straight victory over a top-ranked team.
For UMass Lowell, the tough road trip was supposed to be an opportunity for growth, but instead it proved to be a baptism by fire. The Minutemen will look to bounce back from this loss on Friday against a tougher opponent.
