Davidson defeats Saint Joseph's 56-62
Game Recap: Davidson Outlasts Saint Joseph's in Thrilling Conference Showdown
In a back-and-forth affair, the visiting Davidson Wildcats edged out the home-standing Saint Joseph's Hawks 62-56 on Sunday at Michael J. Hagan '85 Arena.
The game was far from a blowout, with both teams trading baskets and making crucial plays throughout the contest. However, it was the Wildcats who ultimately emerged victorious after erasing a 9-point halftime deficit to take control of the matchup.
At the break, Saint Joseph's held a slim 29-20 lead, thanks in large part to the dominant play of Justice Ajogbor, who scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. But Davidson refused to back down, with Sam Brown leading the charge. The Wildcats' point guard poured in 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and added two assists to keep his team in the game.
As the second half got underway, both teams went on a series of scoring spurts. Saint Joseph's attempted to maintain its lead, but Davidson kept pace with Brown's continued production. The Wildcats finally took the lead for good midway through the second stanza, setting up a thrilling finish to the contest.
The largest leads of the game were 11 points by Saint Joseph's and six points by Davidson. In between those two extremes was a 9-point deficit that the Wildcats erased with relative ease, thanks in part to Brown's clutch shooting.
Davidson's victory marked its first road win against a conference foe this season, providing a significant bounce-back for the team after a recent string of losses. The Wildcats now hold sole possession of third place in the conference standings.
Saint Joseph's falls to 7-10 on the year and sits at fourth place, while Davidson improves to 11-8 overall and takes fifth spot in the league.
