Virginia Dominates at Home, Wins 70-55 Against Stanford
In front of a raucous crowd at John Paul Jones Arena, the Virginia Cavaliers proved too much for visiting Stanford Cardinal, winning 70-55 in a conference matchup.
The Cavaliers' home court advantage played a significant role in their victory, as they led by as many as 23 points in the second half. The margin was eventually trimmed to just 15 points, but Virginia's defense held strong enough to secure the win.
Thijs De Ridder led the Cavaliers with 22 points, shooting an impressive 72.7% from the field. Malik Thomas chipped in with 11 rebounds and 11 points, while Dallin Hall contributed six assists and six points off the bench.
For Stanford, Benny Gealer scored a team-high 15 points, but struggled to find his range beyond the arc, going 3-9 from three-point territory. Ebuka Okorie led the Cardinal in rebounding with six boards and 14 points.
The Cavaliers' balanced attack allowed them to control the tempo of the game, outscoring Stanford 41-29 at halftime. Virginia's defense was equally impressive, holding Stanford to just 34% shooting and forcing 13 turnovers.
While Stanford struggled to find its rhythm, the Cavaliers were efficient on both ends of the floor. They shot 44% from the field, hit 27.0% of their three-point attempts, and converted 82.0% of their free throws.
The win marked a significant statement for Virginia, who remain one of the top teams in the conference. For Stanford, it was a tough road loss against a tough opponent.
