Jax State defeats ETSU 75-81
Jax State Upsets ETSU in Thrilling Comeback Victory
In a battle of non-conference titans, visiting Jax State (AWAY) stunned host East Tennessee State (ETSU) 81-75 at Freedom Hall on Saturday evening.
The game began with ETSU dominating the paint, leading 34-31 at halftime. However, Jax State's offense found its rhythm in the second half, erasing a three-point deficit and taking control of the contest. The Golden Eagles' bench was the catalyst for the comeback, as their hot shooting and timely defense allowed them to build a six-point advantage with just over two minutes remaining.
AC Bryant led Jax State on this charge, scoring 17 points in the second half on an efficient 6-10 3PT shooting percentage. The senior's hot streak proved decisive, as he connected on multiple clutch three-balls to give his team the lead for good.
For ETSU, Brian Taylor II paced the Bucs with 20 points, including 3-4 three-pointers, while Cam Morris III added 17 points and four rebounds in a valiant effort to turn the game around.
Advanced statistics revealed Jax State's strong performance on both ends of the floor. The Golden Eagles out-shot their hosts from beyond the arc (11/22 50.0% vs 8/15 53.0%) while also limiting ETSU's paint scoring opportunities and rebounding advantages.
This win marks a significant upset for Jax State, as they now have taken down an Eastern Conference opponent on the road.
