Akron Dominates Concord in 51-Point Blowout at Home
The Akron Zips made a statement on Tuesday night, cruising to a convincing 115-64 victory over visiting Concord at their home turf, the James A. Rhodes Arena.
The home team took control early, outscoring Concord by 22 points in the first half (47-25). The lead only grew wider from there, with Akron's largest advantage coming at 51 points late in the second half. The final margin of 51 points was a testament to the Zips' dominance throughout.
Tavari Johnson led Akron's charge, scoring 28 points on 4-9 three-point shooting and 55.0% field goal efficiency. He also added six assists, four rebounds, and three steals in an impressive all-around performance.
Amani Lyles chipped in with seven rebounds, 12 points, and four assists of her own, while Johnson's teammate Jake Wright contributed five points, eight rebounds, and two blocks off the bench.
For Concord, Josiah Rickards scored 15 points on 4-8 three-point shooting, but struggled from the field at 45.5%. Micah Young led the visitors in rebounding with five boards, while Khamani Wertz added six assists and eight points of his own.
Akron's performance was marked by strong efficiency across multiple categories. The Zips shot 64.0% from the field, made 78.3% of their two-point attempts, and converted 38.0% of their three-point shots. They also outrebounded Concord 41-31 and committed just seven turnovers.
Concord, on the other hand, struggled to find its rhythm. The visitors shot just 33.0% from the field, making only 28.6% of their two-point attempts and 37.0% of their three-point shots. They also committed 21 turnovers and were outrebounded by a significant margin.
The blowout win marked a statement for Akron, which has been touted as a contender in the MAC East Division this season. With wins like this, the Zips are building momentum and positioning themselves for a strong postseason run.
