Wisconsin defeats C Michigan 88-61
Wisconsin Dominates C Michigan in Statement Win at Home
The University of Wisconsin men's basketball team put on a clinic at the Kohl Center, defeating visiting Central Michigan 88-61 in a non-conference matchup that served as a statement win for the Badgers.
From the opening tip, it was clear that this game would be a blowout. The Badgers came out hot, building an early lead and never looking back. At halftime, Wisconsin led 40-28, and by the end of the third quarter, they had expanded their advantage to 35 points. The largest leads of the night were 35 for the home team and just one point for the visitors.
For the Badgers, it was a well-rounded performance that showcased their depth and talent. Austin Rapp led the way with 18 points on 4-7 three-point shooting, while Nolan Winter chipped in with 8 rebounds and 18 points of his own. Jack Janicki added 9 assists to complete the starting five's impressive all-around numbers.
On the other side of the court, Central Michigan struggled to find its footing. The Chippewas shot just 41% from the field and were held to single-digit scoring in the second half. Tamario Adley led the way for C Michigan with 13 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Badgers' dominance.
The advanced statistics told a similar story to the final score. Wisconsin's efficient field goal percentage (65.7%) and free throw rate (48.1%) were major factors in their success, as they outscored Central Michigan on both ends of the court 67.2-49.6. The Badgers also outrebounded their opponents 41-22 and committed just nine turnovers to C Michigan's eight.
For Wisconsin, this win serves as a statement of intent for the upcoming season. With several key players still returning from injury, it will be interesting to see how the team performs in conference play. Meanwhile, Central Michigan will look to regroup and refocus after a tough loss to start their non-conference schedule.
