Georgia St defeats Marshall 81-73
Georgia St Edges Marshall 81-73 in Conference Showdown
The Georgia State Panthers hosted their conference rival, Marshall University, at the GSU Convocation Center, and came out on top with an 81-73 victory.
The game was a closely contested affair from the opening tip, with both teams trading baskets in the first half. The home team's defense stiffened slightly as the period wore on, allowing Georgia St to lead 38-38 at halftime.
In the second half, Georgia St continued to dominate the paint, outscoring Marshall 26-28 and taking a commanding 8-point lead midway through the frame. However, the Thundering Herd refused to back down, mounting a late rally to cut the deficit to just 2 points with under two minutes remaining.
Marshall's Wyatt Fricks led all scorers with 21 points, but it was not enough to overcome Georgia St's balanced attack. The Panthers' Jelani Hamilton chipped in 23 points, including 4 three-pointers, and Christian Beam added 11 points and 8 rebounds off the bench.
For Marshall, the loss marked their first away game this season at a conference opponent, while for Georgia State, it was their third win at home in four games.
