In a thrilling non-conference matchup, the visiting Charleston Rams edged out their host opponents, Northern Kentucky University (NKU), 85-74 on Sunday evening at Truist Arena.
The turning point in this contest came midway through the first half, when the away team took control. With NKU leading by just two points, 30-28, Charleston's offense suddenly found its rhythm. The visitors' 3-point shooting went into high gear, with several key players contributing to a 40-30 lead for the Rams at halftime.
As the second half began, Charleston continued to build on their advantage. Despite NKU's best efforts to mount a comeback, the deficit remained sizable throughout. In fact, the largest margin of the game was a 13-point difference in favor of the away team.
The key performances from both teams were highlighted by individual standout players. For the hosts, Kael Robinson led the charge with an impressive 22 points and nine rebounds. Meanwhile, for Charleston, Jlynn Counter put on a show with 26 points, as well as six assists and eleven rebounds.
Charleston's overall performance was marked by strong efficiency from both inside and outside the paint. The visitors shot a robust 69.2% from the field and converted at an impressive rate of 54.7% from the free throw line.
On the other hand, NKU struggled to find consistency in their offense, shooting just 39.0% overall and struggling with three-point accuracy (30.0%). Despite outrebounding Charleston by a narrow margin, the hosts could not overcome the deficit once it became too large.
