Arizona St defeats Kansas St 87-84
Arizona St Edges Kansas St in Thrilling 3-Point Contest
In a back-and-forth affair, top-ranked Arizona St (Home) edged visiting Kansas St (Away) 87-84 on Monday night at Desert Financial Arena.
The Sun Devils erased a 2-point halftime deficit to take control of the game down the stretch. With their home crowd behind them, they pulled away for the three-point victory.
Kansas St took an early lead in the first half but trailed by as few as two points going into intermission. The Wildcats' shooting woes persisted throughout, making just 12 of 24 three-point attempts (50%). Arizona St capitalized on its own three-point shooting, knocking down 3 of 9 from beyond the arc.
The Sun Devils outrebounded Kansas St 18-16 on the offensive glass and forced 15 turnovers. This helped offset their poor free throw shooting, as they only made 8 of 12 attempts.
On offense, Arizona St relied heavily on its fast break, scoring 14 points in transition. The Wildcats' high-powered offense was able to keep pace with Kansas St's attack, despite being outscored by three points at the end of regulation.
Kansas St's shooting woes limited its ability to keep up with the Sun Devils, who shot 47% from the field and held a significant advantage on the glass.
The loss drops Kansas St's national ranking but remains in conference contention.
