Robert Morris Edges Detroit Mercy in Thrilling Comeback Victory
The visiting Robert Morris Colonials pulled off an impressive comeback win over the Detroit Mercy Titans at Calihan Hall on Saturday, edging them 85-77 in a conference showdown.
Detroit Mercy took control of the game early, leading by as many as eight points at halftime. However, the Colonials refused to back down, using their trademark resilience to mount a second-half surge. With just over nine minutes remaining, Robert Morris trailed by five, but rallied behind a 10-0 run to take its first lead of the night.
DeSean Goode led the charge for Robert Morris with 18 points on 3-for-3 three-point shooting and 75% from the field. His performance was complemented by Nikolaos Chitikoudis, who grabbed 10 rebounds and chipped in 13 points, including one steal.
Meanwhile, Detroit Mercy's TJ Nadeau led the Titans with 20 points, two threes, and 63.6% shooting from the field. Ryan Kalambay added five rebounds and six points for the home team.
Statistically, both teams struggled from beyond the arc, with Robert Morris making just 7 of 19 three-point attempts (37%), while Detroit Mercy was equally ineffective at 7 of 13 (54%).
In contrast, free-throw shooting proved to be a deciding factor. The Colonials converted 28 of 32 shots from the line (88%), compared to Detroit Mercy's 20 of 26 (77%). This disparity ultimately swung the momentum in favor of Robert Morris.
