G Washington defeats La Salle 77-55
La Salle Falls Short in Statement Win at GW
In a dominating performance, George Washington (GW) handed visiting La Salle a 77-55 defeat on the road Sunday night at Charles E. Smith Center.
The difference between the two teams was stark from the opening tip-off, with GW establishing its dominance from the start. The home team took an early lead and never looked back, as they outscored their opponents by 22 points in the end.
GW's Rafael Castro led the way for his team, scoring 26 points on 73.3% shooting from the field. He also pulled down 14 rebounds, dished out two assists, and added three steals to round out a stellar all-around performance.
Despite a valiant effort from La Salle point guard Rob Dockery, who scored 23 points and grabbed five rebounds, GW's offense proved too much for his team to handle. The Red Hawks shot just 38% overall, while the Colonials connected on 48% of their field goal attempts.
GW's bench also played a key role in its victory, as it outscored La Salle's reserves by 10 points. Meanwhile, La Salle struggled with turnovers, committing 10 miscues that GW capitalized on for easy baskets.
The largest lead of the game was 22 points, which GW built during the final minutes of play. The Colonials also forced 11 turnovers, while holding their opponents to just six steals and four blocks.
In terms of advanced statistics, GW's shooting efficiency was strong, with an effective field goal percentage (eFG%) of 55.6%. Meanwhile, La Salle struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 29% of its three-point attempts.
GW's victory marks a significant statement win for the Colonials in conference play, as they look to build momentum heading into their next matchup. For La Salle, however, this defeat serves as a tough reminder that it still has some work to do if it hopes to compete with the top teams in the league.
