In a back-and-forth contest that saw both teams battle for every inch of court space, the visiting Austin Peay Governors edged out the host Florida Gulf Coast Eagles 82-71 on Friday night at Alico Arena.
The largest lead of the game came with over six minutes remaining when FGCU's J.R. Konieczny converted a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to just four points. However, the Governors responded by pushing their advantage back up to 11 points on a Zyree Collins three-pointer with 2:15 left in regulation.

Collins finished the game with 25 points, including five three-pointers, while Tate McCubbin added 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
For the Eagles, Konieczny led the way with a season-high 20 points, as well as eight rebounds and two assists. Rahmir Barno chipped in with six assists and three steals from his point guard position.
Despite struggling to find their range outside, FGCU made up for it by dominating the paint, where they scored 24 points compared to Austin Peay's 20. The Governors' ability to push the pace and capitalize on turnovers gave them a decisive edge in the fast break, where they outscored FGCU 21-8.
Austin Peay took an early lead in the game, but FGCU responded with a furious 10-2 run that put them up by two points heading into halftime. The Governors regrouped and pushed their advantage back up to four at intermission before the Eagles pulled within one in the second half.
