San Francisco Dominates at Home, Beats Visiting San Diego 74-64
The San Francisco Dons proved once again why they're one of the top teams in the conference, as they defeated visiting San Diego 74-64 on Saturday night at The Sobrato Center.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading baskets and neither able to gain a significant advantage until the second half. At halftime, the Dons led 29-28, but it was clear that their home court advantage would prove to be too much for the visitors.
In the second half, San Francisco took control, extending its lead to as many as 14 points at one point. The Bulldogs struggled to contain Tyrone Riley IV, who poured in 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead his team to the win.
Adrian McIntyre was the lone bright spot for San Diego, scoring 16 points but struggling from beyond the arc where he shot just 0-2. Vuk Boskovic paced the visitors with 4 assists, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
Advanced statistics told a similar story. The Dons outshot their opponents in every category, including field goal percentage (42.0% vs 43.0%), free throw percentage (76.0% vs 83.0%), and true shooting percentage (51.0% vs 50.6%). San Francisco also had a significant edge on the glass, grabbing 30 rebounds to just 22 for San Diego.
The win is a crucial one for the Dons, who move up in the conference standings while keeping their own tournament hopes alive. The loss drops San Diego to a tough spot in the league standings, and they'll need to regroup quickly if they hope to make a push for the playoffs.
For now, though, the Dons will bask in the glow of another hard-fought victory at home.
