Seton Hall defeats Creighton 56-54
Seton Hall Edges Creighton in Thrilling Comeback Victory
In a dramatic turn of events, Seton Hall (HOME) erased a 9-point halftime deficit to defeat visiting Creighton 56-54 at the Prudential Center on Tuesday night.
The Pirates' late surge was led by Elijah Fisher, who scored 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, while Najai Hines chipped in with 8 points and 9 rebounds. Trey Parker added 3 assists and 9 points to round out the top performers for Seton Hall.
Despite trailing by 9 points at halftime, Creighton's Josh Dix led a furious comeback attempt, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Austin Swartz also had a strong game for the Bluejays, pouring in 16 points on 4-9 three-point shooting. However, it wasn't enough to overcome Seton Hall's second-half resurgence.
The largest lead of the night belonged to Creighton, which held a 16-2 advantage early in the first half. However, as the game wore on, Seton Hall began to chip away at the deficit, slowly but surely taking control. By halftime, they had narrowed it down to just 18 points, setting the stage for an epic second half.
In the final frame, both teams traded baskets and neither could gain more than a few possessions without being countered by their opponent's defense. The lead seesawed back and forth until Seton Hall finally took the reins with less than a minute remaining, securing the 2-point victory.
The Pirates' win is significant in conference play, moving them to within a game of first place in the standings. For Creighton, it was a tough loss but a valuable lesson learned about the importance of closing out games like this one.
Seton Hall's eFG% of 37.7%, FT Rate of 35.8%, and OREB% of 17.6% all contributed to their success tonight, while Creighton's TO Ratio of 17.5% was a major contributor to their inability to close out the game.
