W Michigan Takes Down E Michigan in Thrilling Conference Matchup
The University Arena was electric on Tuesday night as the Western Michigan Broncos hosted their conference rival, Eastern Michigan Eagles. In a back-and-forth contest that saw both teams make key plays down the stretch, the home team emerged victorious with a 79-62 win.
Coming into the game, it was clear that this matchup would be a battle for control of the West Division standings. However, in a shocking turn of events, Eastern Michigan erased a 6-point halftime deficit to trail by just 2 points at the end of the third quarter. Habhab finished with a game-high 20 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Broncos' balanced attack. W Michigan's Jayden Brewer and Griffith combined for 28 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists.
The victory marked W Michigan's first win over E Michigan in conference play this season, snapping a five-game losing streak against their rivals from Ypsilanti. The win moves the Broncos up to third place in the West Division standings, while Eastern Michigan falls to fourth.
For Western Michigan, the win was a much-needed boost to their postseason hopes. Coach Steve Hawkins praised his team's resilience and ability to close out games down the stretch.
