Maine defeats ME-Fort Kent 104-66
Maine Dominates Fort Kent in Statement Win
The University of Maine men's basketball team made a statement on Tuesday night, defeating visiting ME-Fort Kent 104-66 at The Pit in Memorial Gymnasium.
The home team came out strong, leading 54-32 at halftime and never looking back. A 38-point final margin was the largest of the night, as Maine proved that it is a force to be reckoned with on its home court.
Maine's Logan Carey was the primary scorer for the Black Bears, putting up 26 points on 2-3 three-point shooting and an impressive 91.7% field goal percentage. Keelan Steele led the team in rebounds with 8 boards, while Mekhi Gray chipped in with 8 assists to help guide his team to victory.
ME-Fort Kent's Sam Williams was the lone bright spot for the visiting Vikings, scoring 25 points on 2-3 three-point shooting and a respectable 56.2% field goal percentage.
While ME-Fort Kent struggled from beyond the arc, going just 9-24 from three, their inability to contain Maine's offense ultimately proved too much to overcome.
Maine's dominant performance can be attributed to its strong team statistics across the board. The Black Bears shot an impressive 60.0% from the field, including a stellar 75.0% mark from two-point range. They also held a significant advantage on the glass, outrebounding ME-Fort Kent 31-25.
The Vikings, on the other hand, struggled with turnovers, committing 25 mistakes that Maine was able to capitalize on. This allowed the Black Bears to build a large lead early and maintain it throughout the game.
With this convincing win, Maine takes a significant step forward in its non-conference schedule and demonstrates its potential as a force to be reckoned with in the conference standings.
